Congratulations to Phage Foundry PI, Vivek Mutalik, for receiving Berkeley Lab’s 2026 Director’s Award for Exceptional Achievement for Mid-Career Leadership!
The Director’s Awards program recognizes the significant achievements of Berkeley Lab employees. Each year, these awards are given for accomplishments, leadership, collaboration, multi-disciplinary science, cross-divisional projects, and commitment to excellence in support of the Lab’s mission and strategic goals.
The new Mid-Career Leadership Award recognizes the vital role mid-career employees play in how the Lab does team science. The award honors individuals in science and operations whose evolving contributions have opened up significant new directions that others now build upon.
Mutalik was recognized for his “visionary mid-career leadership in establishing the Phage Foundry as a nationally visible platform for phage biology, engineering, and therapeutic innovation, while advancing team science, mentorship, and Berkeley Lab’s impact on microbial threat response.”
